About Emei Shan National Park

Emei Shan National Park

Emei Shan National Park is located in the Sichuan Province of southwestern China and is centered around Mount Emei, which rises to 3,099 meters (10,167 feet). The park covers a landscape of steep forested slopes, deep valleys, and ancient temples. Its geography features subtropical and temperate forests, with zones ranging from dense evergreen broadleaf forests at lower elevations to alpine meadows near the summit. The park supports a diverse array of plant and animal life, including rare species such as the Tibetan macaque and several endemic plants. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside the nearby Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei holds great religious significance as a major Buddhist pilgrimage site, housing over thirty ancient temples and monasteries, many dating back more than a millennium. The combination of spiritual and natural attractions draws millions of visitors annually. Hiking is the primary recreational activity, with trails varying from easy paths to challenging climbs leading to the peak. Visitors can explore historic sites such as the Golden Summit Temple and marvel at panoramic views of the surrounding Sichuan basin. Cable cars operate to assist visitors reaching higher elevations, and wildlife watching opportunities abound throughout the year. The park's blend of cultural history, lush ecology, and dramatic landscape makes it a compelling destination for both outdoor enthusiasts and those interested in cultural heritage.
